Are Californians Ready for Fair Elections?

President Trump has taken a leadership role in protecting American elections by signing an election integrity Executive Order on March 25, 2025. The Order is intended to strengthen voter citizenship verification and ban foreign nationals from interfering in U.S. elections:

  • The Election Assistance Commission will require documentary, government-issued proof of U.S. citizenship on its voter registration forms.
  • Agencies like the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Social Security Administration and Department of State must provide states with access to Federal databases to verify eligibility and citizenship of individuals registering to vote.
  • The Attorney General will prioritize prosecuting non-citizen voting and related crimes, including through use of DHS records and coordination with state attorneys general.

Conservatives and supporters of fair elections in California have been critical of California’s Democrat leaders as they have made sure policies prohibit verification of citizenship (easily available through DMV records) and many counties are slow-walking compliance with successful lawsuits requiring voter rolls be purged of unqualified voters, such as those who are deceased, moved to a different address, were in prison on a felony count, or lack US citizen status. Since all ballots are required to be mailed to registered California voters, making sure the voter rolls are clean is the key to a fair election process.

No fooling! Voter ID is on a roll. Voters in Wisconsin sent alarms across blue states in the April 1 election as 63% placed a voter ID mandate in the state constitution.  This brings the total to 36 states that have some form of identification requirement.

RealClear Politics recently published an article on this topic quoting conservative leaders like Ric Grenell and Elon Musk on the importance of this victory for election integrity.

“The win also is emboldening proponents of voter ID laws as far away as solidly blue California. A Gallup poll last fall found that large majorities of Americans back photo ID laws, with some 84% of Americans saying they back having “all voters” provide “photo identification at their voting place in order to vote.”

California Assemblyman Carl DeMaio is ready to take advantage of the momentum for Voter ID, enlisting thousands of volunteers across the state to launch a signature gathering campaign to qualify a ballot measure. Visit his coalition website – Reform California – to learn more.

Since July 2011, California initiative measures only appear on statewide general election ballots, thanks to the super majority of Democrats in the Legislature who wanted to take advantage of larger turnouts of their voters. It is recommended that the initiative language be filed by August 13, 2025 at which time the Attorney General will prepare a circulating title and summary. See the list of recommended deadlines to qualify a California Initiative. Once the Secretary of State formally approves the initiative, the campaign has 180 days to submit at least 1 million verified signatures by April 30, 2026.

The success of anti-crime measure Prop. 36, that received 70% of the California vote, prevailing in every County despite opposition by Governor Newsom and the Democrat machine, has given us encouragement that voters are waking up to failed policies of the left. It will take thousands of volunteers and millions of dollars to achieve a Voter ID law, so we will look to County Republican Committees and the California Republican Party to engage and provide resources to support Voter ID measures.
